Finding a Home You Love: Local Realtor Offers Tips, Suggestions on Home Search

Don E. McNaughton understands the Northwest Arkansas real estate market and what makes it special.

“It’s the quality of life,” the real estate veteran said. “There are lots of opportunities here. All of the cities have their own unique beauty. People recognize that and are moving here to raise their families.”

A real estate professional since 1976, Don has experienced firsthand the rapid growth around the region.

“It’s fast,” he said with a laugh. “We thought it was fast 20 years ago and it’s faster now. Prices are on the rise and a lot of new construction is going on. Every square inch has something going on.”

Don, who owns McNaughton Real Estate in Fayetteville and serves on the Northwest Arkansas Board of Realtors, offered some sage advice for those moving in to Northwest Arkansas and looking for a home.

“The first thing to do is talk to a Realtor,” he said. “Interview two or three Realtors. Get with a Realtor and spend some time with them and make sure you understand the process of buying a home. See who you think is going to represent you the best, and knows the type of home or community you are interested in. Find one you like and go find a home.”

The home-buying processed has changed in many ways during his time as a real estate professional.

“The process is very different than it was 20 years ago,” he cautioned. “A Realtor can explain all of those tips and tricks. It is scary. Homebuyers may not know about home inspections, getting preapproved and how to pick the right home for them. It’s different for each person. A Realtor can walk you through the process and get you a home you like.”
