Some people talk about leaving their corporate job to pursue their dream to start their own business. Camron McAhren, owner and CEO of Branson Helicopter Tours, did more than just talk about it.
Escape Reality Magic & Illusions Dinner Show, starring the husband and wife magic team of Garry and Janine Carson, has only been open 20 weeks but the last 16 of those they have been number one on Trip Advisor. This year they also received the Merlin Award for ‘Best International Magic & Illusion Duo’ of the Year 2020.
“They say it’s like getting an Emmy in the magician field,” Garry said. “Over 37,000 magicians belong to the organization and they chose us. We were really honored and humbled to get it.”
And last, but certainly not least, this Fall in the Best of Branson competition they were awarded Gold for Best of Branson New Show and Silver for Best of Branson Dinner Show.
Garry and Janine Carson have appeared on major stages in the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia with many television appearances around the world. With most recent is for FOX’s “Masters of Illusion” series. Now they have brought their unique style of Las Vegas Magic and Illusion to Branson. “We do the big illusions,” Garry said. “But I love comedy and that is also a big part of our show. I think laughing is something we all need in our lives.”
Magic has been what Garry wanted to do from an early age. “I got into magic literally by accident,” Garry explained. “I lost my kidney as a 10-year-old from a sledding accident. While I was in the hospital I got a beginners magic kit from my parents. I took it from there.” Garry’s dad built custom homes and any time Garry had a new idea his father helped with the illusion design to build it. By the time he graduated high school he had a full illusion show built and paid for. “I always say I never had a real job,” Garry quipped. “I’ve done magic my entire life.”
Janine met Garry on a cruise ship. “I was trained as an EMT,” Janine said. “But I always loved glitter and costumes so I started designing showgirl outfits in Vegas. Garry introduced me to the life of magic. It’s been great to travel the world, enjoy what you do and be with your spouse. We travel and work together as a family.”
Their family has recently grown with the addition of Sophia, their two-year-old daughter. She has even worked herself into the show. The grandparents bought Sophiaa little electric car and at the end of each show she drives it across the stage. “She stops in the middle of the stage and waves and blows kisses to everybody,” Garry said. “She really steals the show!”
