ABC Campground: where service makes all the difference

Experienced travelers who come to Branson for the entertainment and great restaurants and prefer to stay in the pastoral setting of a campground, know it doesn’t get much better than the best – America’s Best Campground (ABC Campground), that is. Located just beyond the Branson city limits, ABC lives up to its slogan: City Close - Country Quiet.

“You can hear the tree frogs at night here instead of the traffic noises,” Sue Alkire, ABC Campground owner said. “But we are right on the border of Branson so all of the entertainment is a short drive away.”

When they purchased the campground over 20 years ago, both Sue and her husband, Jim, were new to the business. “My husband was a third generation farmer and I had a mediation business back in Colorado,” Sue said. “But we decided to quit everything we knew and buy a campground. Shortly after we made the move, we got great advice from a retired campground owner who told us: ‘be nice to the people and keep it clean.’ And that has been the secret to our success.”

Indeed, Sue and Jim have followed that advice, and then some. What makes them stand out from other campsites is their customer service. A prime example is how they have responded during the COVID-19 epidemic.

“Because of the pandemic, a lot of people are turning to campsites and RVs because they feel safer,” Sue said. “We have so many new campers coming in with RVs they just bought and some of these people don’t even know how their RV works. Our staff is trained, and encouraged, to help these new campers figure it all out and become comfortable and enjoy all of the benefits from their recent purchases.”

They also make it a point to be helpful to people finding the right activities in the area. “We sell tickets to almost all of the shows and know all of the good hiking and boating locations in the area,” Sue continued. “Whatever they want to do, we take the time to help them. It’s all about making their stay enjoyable. We are a Christian-based outfit and we run ABC Campground with Christian values. My husband likes to say that anyone can park a camper. It’s how you treat the people that makes the difference.”
